This morning, we had our 20 week ultrasound! EEEKKK! Honestly, keeping this a secret for the last 3.5 weeks has been super difficult. But alas, the gender has been confirmed and I am so excited to share that with you!
When I was 16 weeks pregnant, Evan and I decided that we wanted to do something special for our family to know the gender, which we were all so very eager to know. We decided to schedule an earlier gender reveal ultrasound at this amazing place called Motherhood Ultrasound in Annapolis. We wanted our family to be there for this special moment so we loved that Motherhood allowed us to have them all in the room. It was a beautiful day and everyone was wearing pink or blue, guessing which gender they thought it was going to be. Evan and I were convinced that the results were going to say BOY so we were both wearing blue. Actually, everyone except my grandmother showed up to the ultrasound wearing blue, she was sure we were having a girl.

During the ultrasound we got to see my sweet babe sleep… Our baby apparently likes to do this every time I get the opportunity to see them because they have done this for ever single ultrasound so far. I learned while I was there that it was most likely because I had eaten recently and had an empty bladder so Baby had lots of room and a full belly creating the perfect environment for a cozy little nap. To try to wake the baby up the technician was having me drink lots of cold water and poking my belly. Baby was sound asleep for most of the appointment, but my friends, the cold water eventually worked and baby started wiggling around.
This week, I made sure that I had a FULL bladder upon the start of my appointment and drank lots of cold water. Unfortunately, my baby is a fantastic napper and nothing would wake them up!

Our sweet, lazy, measuring about 12oz now at 20 weeks, Baby GIRL showed herself by sitting with one leg bent just like her momma. She has such a strong heartbeat, which Motherhood Ultrasound actually recorded for us and put in a sweet keepsake teddy bear. I honestly listen to this just about every day, and especially every time I am anxious or stressed because just hearing her strong heartbeat reminds me that she is there and worth it all.
If you are an expecting momma, I highly recommend getting a recording of your baby’s heartbeat, it’s seriously my favorite keepsake ever!

Obviously we were all surprised because my girl has some strange eating habits. I mean, what girl do you know that doesn’t like sweets? But Evan says she must already be a Christian because her favorite food is the Lord’s chicken, commonly known as Chick-fil-A. There have even been a few days where I have stopped by Chick-fil-A for two meals in the same day. Pregnancy cravings are weird okay.
We all thought because my morning sickness was fairly mild in my first trimester, coupled with wanting to eat all the salty and spicy things, we were having a boy, but we certainly didn’t enter the room with a preference. We are overjoyed that we are having a girl and she is already so loved, and will be better dressed than me that is for sure. Girls are so much fun and it’s really hard to resist buying all the adorable pink, frilly, and sparkly things!

Our sweet girl obviously deserves a sweet name, which is why she is called Anna Grace. I’ve been having dreams of my future curly haired daughter (wishful thinking) ever since I was a senior in high school. My very first dream, my daughter was called Grace. Evan and I love the name and it means eloquence or beauty of form, kindness, mercy, and favor. I mean come on, it’s lovely. Anyway, we went back and forth on a girls name for a while until one day I sent Evan a list of some classic names and he picked Anna, a name I’d also picked for my short list. Anna means favor, grace, or beautiful. I suggested to him combining Anna and Grace and it was a no brainer, we had a name for our baby girl. We entered into the Ultrasound knowing we had a name either way, so when we found out who we were having, we were instantly able to start calling her by name.
We are obviously a little biased but we are both obsessed with how classic and timeless our baby girl’s name is. We wanted a name that would set her up for a life of success. We cannot wait to meet her!
So happy for you both!!!
