Mind Monsters for Kids: An Interview with Author Jodi Cameron

December 4, 2019

Hi Friends! Today on the blog I am sharing something a little new! I had the amazing opportunity to receive and read Jodi Cameron’s children’s book, Mind Monster’s For Kids, and I truly believe that this is one you’re going to want to have around the house. It’s perfect for young children who struggle with fears or anxieties and equips them with a beautiful visual and powerful acronym: FAITH to help them combat those fears and anxieties. I’ve read it to the little ones that I nanny and they loved the book and plan to read it to my sweet little baby girl when she makes her arrival. Below you will see an interview I had with author Jodi Cameron about this book, and her other book which she just released, Fight of Your Life.

When you’re done reading, head over to Instagram to find out how to participate in the giveaway mentioned at the end of this post!

1. Hi Jodi! Can you tell our readers a little bit more about yourself? Where are you from? What do you do?

Sure, I’m a Pacific Northwest Girl with Midwest roots. (I was born in St. Louis, but grew up just south of Seattle). Now, I live in Bellevue, Washington. I do a lot of things— including writing, speaking and being a wife and mom. But, officially I’m on staff at my church, Champions Centre.

2. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I’ve published 2 books so far, a couple more are in the works. Do I have to pick a favorite? I love the Mind Monsters for Kids book because I love encouraging kids through creativity. But, I like to do that with adults too, so I love Fight of Your life book too. Is that fair?

3. When did you realize you first wanted to be a writer?

That’s a good question. I think it was in elementary school, I actually liked the writing assignments. And, then I won a letter writing contest when I was 10 or 11 and it was cool (and, fulfilling I guess!) to see my writing inspire other people. Even at such a young age, I found out that something written could impact more longer than something said.

4. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I love spending time with my family. My husband and I try to spend as much time with our boys as we can, sometimes just as a family and sometimes with other friends and families along for the ride. We love movies, hiking, and I let my son beat me at basketball every now and then.

5. Can you tell us more about Mind Monsters for Kids?

Mind Monsters for kids was written because I wanted a fun way to teach my boys and their friends about overcoming the negative invaders of their mind with the FAITH acronym. And, it’s ended up helping a lot of kids along the way, which is awesome!

6. Who is your co-author, Kevin Gerald? What can you tell us about him?

Kevin Gerald is actually my dad. He has authored more than 15 books over his career, one of my favorites of his is Mind Monsters: Conquering fear, worry, and other negative invaders of the mind. It is a book that has really helped me, and it was the first book that introduced the FAITH acronym.

7. Where did you get the inspiration for this book?

Well, it was partly because I found out as a parent that my kids were already dealing with fear, worry, doubt, and insecurities and I wanted to find words and pictures to help them learn and understand at their level. So, a team of us got together and worked out a rhyming kind of story that introduced the FAITH acronym in a preschool-early elementary age level.

8. What is your hope/aspirations for this book?

I hope this book can ultimately help kids (and their families) learn how to apply FAITH in their everyday lives. Sometimes faith seems intangible and hard to explain, but I hope this acronym and this story can help kids understand how to actually apply and grow their faith.

9. What does your family think of your writing?

They like it! Especially when they get books dedicated to them. I’ve almost got my oldest talked into writing a book with me!

10. Where can someone learn more about or purchase one of your books?

Oh, that is so nice to ask! They can go to JodiCameron.com or purchase on Amazon too. We also have some free downloads for kids like coloring pages and a rap song with the FAITH acronym on MindMonsters.com.

Meet Caylee

Hey there, I’m Caylee! I am 28 years old, been married for 4 years, mama to a sweet and adventurous toddler, expecting little brother in May 2022. I started blogging in January 2017 and this blog has grown with me as I go through big life changes and spiritual change. After an early pregnancy loss in April 2021, I took an unexpected break from blogging and this site is currently in a season of transition as I rely on God to show me what to do with it next. I pray this blog is a way to spread the word of the coolest guy I know, Jesus Christ, with the world around me and to have authentic conversations about maturing in Christ, marriage, and motherhood as intentional Christian women.
